It just dried so fast between coats! Here's the floorcloth...I like it!

Thoughts? I have made several floorcloths before but never "collaged".

Idea board
Last night I got my idea board finished and hung up on that big blank door! I had some extra fabric so I covered a small bulletin board too. Take a peek!

Now I just need to fill them up!
Off to put another coat of Polyurethane on my floorcloth...I will have it in the studio tomorrow morning and will show you then. I really like how it is turning out ;-)

Round the room...wind up!

From time to time I'll update you with changes...unless you're sick of my room already! ;-) I have ordered a bottom up/top down shade for the window that should be here in about a week. Once I get that up I think I'll be hanging some of my Moroccan type lanterns from the ceiling. I also have a big metal star lantern that I want to hang somewhere.
For all you safety experts out there please be aware that I am working on a ventilation system that will be installed ASAP and I will be piping the propane through the wall. Don't worry!! I want to be working with glass and books for a very long time! :-)
Any thoughts? Do you see anything that you would change or add/subtract? I would love your opinions! Also, don't forget...send me a link to your studio! Please!!

Oh no!
I forgot to update you guys! I updated my thread on TAM but forgot to load the pictures here!
Sorry!
How about a tour around the room? Bear in mind please that I have a bit more cleaning up to do, an inspiration board to finish up and hang on the closet door and I am working on the floorcloth too. But for now....here we go!

I forgot to tell you!
I also wanted to show you some fabric I ordered. I plan on making an idea board to hang on the back of the closet door. My mom (an avid quilter) told me about a website that had hard to find fabrics - Hancocks of Paducah. You should take a peek - the fabrics are gorgeous!
This is the fabric I picked out for the idea board:
And when I saw this....well, as a flameworker I couldn't pass it up :-)
I think I'll make a new work apron out of it!
I have to admit that when a friend of mine showed me a picture of fabric with Fleur de Lis on it I seriously considered canceling the order for the Acanthus fabric but...I do love it. I'll have to tell you all about me and my favorite symbols one of these days. I'm sure you can guess them by now! Dragons, the Fleur de Lis, & Acanthus leaves ;-)
Do you have a favorite symbol?

Making Progress!
I really think I will be moving into the studio Friday!! I'm am soooooo happy and excited I can barely contain myself :-)) The room is coming out better than I imagined!
We still need to mount the upper cabinets and shelving; add the cabinet hardware and a few other little things (toe kick, baseboard, mount the light, etc) but we are very, very close!
Here are a few more pictures.

I would love to know what you all think!

My Studio ... Not done yet!
But it will be soon!! As promised here are a few pictures. The first one is of the Venetian Plaster walls - They are so pretty but sooo much work!
We have installed the new hard wood floor but you can't see it right now. We covered it with paper to prevent scratches while we install the cabinets. Hopefully we will get the rest of the cabinets in tomorrow.
And of course I have to include pictures of our helpers ;-)
Here is Jake our "supervisor"
And this is Pete the "inspector"
The plan for tomorrow is to finish installing the cabinets and add the counter tops. Wish us luck!

As you all know I love looking at other peoples studios so of course as soon as I heard about this magazine...yep, I had to pre-order it immediately ;-)

New Studio!
I am so excited! I have been working with hot glass (lampworking/flameworking) for about about 3.5 years now (December 25 will be 4) and working with stained glass for about 3 years before that. All of that time I have been working in the garage...a small one car garage that I share with the washer & dryer and my very understanding DH. Poor DH...his corner has gotten smaller and smaller over the years.
Well last week we decided that I should move into what was DH's office. He never really worked in there so it was becoming more of a storage room. It's not huge (10'8" X 9'8) but it is going to be big enough for me to work on my glass and jewelry. I wish I could explain how happy and excited I am about the move! I will have tons of storage, a window, heat in the winter, air conditioning in the summer.... I AM SO HAPPY!
The plan is to move all of my art supplies into that room...the books, the crafts I am not currently working on (soap making, candle making, painting...this list is long!)...everything! I have always wanted all of my supplies in one area so I don't have to take over the dining room table, kitchen table and countertops...basically every empty flat surface. I can't wait to have my studio as well as having the rest of my house available again ;-)
We have been working really hard painting, applying Venetian Plaster to the walls, and planing the layout of the cabinets. Fingers crossed Friday 9/19 is move in day!!Stay tuned...I plan to show you all pictures but I'm pooped tonight!
Did I mention how happy and EXCITED I am to be out of the garage!? ;-)

Cubicle Hell
A comment to my previous entry got me thinking. When I worked for a world wide corporation several years ago there were two of us with the same name on the same team. As with many large corporations we had several managers...depending on the manager I would be called Rob (instead of Robin) or by my last name. I hated that! Why did she get to use 'our' name? I really hated it when the manger that called me by my last name was on. The way he would say it...I always felt like I was on a football team or something....drove me crazy!
At that job my "office" was the beloved cubicle. *sigh* Anyone out there reading this stuck in cubicle hell? Have nightmares about it? Well, here is a movie that you have to watch... Office Space This movie is sooo funny. If you have ever experienced cubicle hell or know someone who has you need to watch this movie!!
Let me know what you think :-)

Nicknames
I was thinking earlier today and I can't remember the last time somebody actually called me by my name. I mean my given name. I wonder if we are all like that to an extent.
Growing up our parents call us nicknames...pumpkin, sport, tiger, champ, etc. If not a nickname like that they may call you by a shortened version of your given name...Robert - Rob, Jonathan - Jon, Michael - Mike, etc. Heck, I even have nicknames for my dogs Jake and Pete ;-) Jake is "liebechen" and Pete is "frog" (a story for another day!)
Within the Internet world most (well, many!) of us have an Internet name...mine is Wiley. When I signed up at a lampwork forum for the first time I wanted a new 'alias'; something new and a little more original than my initials. I'm a big fan of Wile E Coyote so...Wiley sounded good!
So, now I am known as Wiley in the lampwork/jewelry world and just like any where else one ends up with a nickname. My favorite is Dragon and of course there are variations on that...Dragoness, Dragonette, etc.
At home, I have lots of nicknames too! My favorite is Smithers! Yet another story for another day. But isn't it funny? No matter where you go, you end up with a nickname.
What's yours?
